Alisa & Ken- July 29, 2011

What a beautiful July day this was! I had so much fun helping Alisa with her wedding! Everyone at Bayshore Clubhouse was very nice and as always wonderful to work with! Wes with Master's Catering provided a most delicious buffet appetizers and dinner with the help of his staff! Alaska Photography & Design was there and they were nice enough to provide me with some pictures of Alisa and Ken's beautiful July wedding! Lou and Ryan from R&R Productions were amazing in helping me make sure everything ran smoothly!!

It was so great to meet their family and friends! I am so glad that I was able to get to know all of you! Thanks to all the vendors for helping me make this day special for Alisa and Ken and a special thanks to Alisa for giving me the opportunity to be a part of her Wedding Day! Congratulation Alisa and Ken!

Someone's Special Day!

I remember when I was planning my wedding every aspect of it made me all giddy inside, like it was Christmas morning every day. Most brides can't wait for it to be over and get stressed by it all the commotion but for obvious reasons I loved every minute of it. I've always been the type who would look for any excuse to be the hostess or plan an elegant dinner whether it be a baby shower, Superbowl, or casual dinner at home with friends. Most of my family and friends compare me to Monica's character in the television show "Friends". Because I enjoy being the hostess but also for my excessive cleaning and "mom" attitude. At first I was offended but now I've just accepted it.

Just recently I watched a friends episode and it was the one after Chandler and Monica's wedding and Monica is sad because her wedding is over. Its funny but I felt the exact same way after my wedding. My husband couldn't have been happier that it was all behind us but I remember a moment of sadness as I drove away from our venue with my wedding dress in the back seat, I didn't want it to be over. I asked my husband if we could get married again? He of course came back with a sarcastic yet sweet reply.

"No, because I don't want to have to get divorced just so we can get married again." I agreed.

After some careful consideration I decided I wanted to be a wedding and event planner, at first I was going to concentrate on just weddings, but after planning a bachelorette party and two baby showers I realized I just enjoyed planning, no matter what the occasion was.

I would have to say my favorite part of it all is searching for the location, because it all doesn't seem real until you have found THE location. Its almost like finding the perfect dress. Some you like, others you dislike, sometimes you will look at 10 places before you find "the one". What a special moment that is, when a bride views the area for the first time, of course she's seen pictures but in person makes it ten times better. I immediately start seeing tables, chairs, decorations playing in my head before we have even made it through the entire room. You can see in her facial expression and her eyes that this one is her favorite.

It may not be my wedding but its someones special day and what an amazing gift to share that couples special day. It could be the best day of their life and I get to be a part of it! What other occupation or career could I do that would make me that happy? Weddings and events use to be something that I was good at, now.... Its my life! And I couldn't be happier!

Location chaos

As of Friday I am now planning two weddings. Both are small but small enough for me to start on and kind of get the hang of things. Both of my clients are hoping to get married in a church which is nice because their clean, beautiful rooms, you don't have to do too much decorating for the ceremony and their a lot of the times free if you or a family member are active church goers. Since both brides are on a small budget a church is perfect. Having small complications but were pushing through.

I'm getting a little nervous that we still have not found a location for my first bride after two weeks of working with her. We had already reserved a reception location but I think she is a little unhappy with it, she continues to look at other places. Its her wedding day, what I think of in this situation is its like shopping for clothes if you do not 100 % like it chances are your going to hate it later. This is her wedding day, its suppose to be perfect and if she is unsure of anything, my first instinct is to toss it and find something else. After speaking with her last night I instructed her to sleep on it, if she was not thrilled with the location I wanted to get a move on things, her wedding is planned for July and we don't have a lot of options as of right now. But that is what I am here for.

I'm enjoying every minute of this, at times I feel tired and worn out but once I get established in how to run things it will get easier. As of right now its a lot of running around and research, but I have met a lot of good people who are willing to help me out a long the way as long as I return the favor.

I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for all the support. My friends, family and even strangers have shown me a lot of love and I feel so blessed. I hope you will continue to read or check me out on Facebook.

I'm still offering my services for free or very cheap depending on how large the event, so tell your friends!

Welcome to Alaskan Elegance!

As my first post I would like to thank you for taking the time to read what I have to say. I hope that you will find what I say interesting or perhaps use the information I post about in the future.

My name is Amanda Talyat I have been looking into making a career as a Wedding/Party Planner. As of two years ago I decided it was definitley the occupation for me. I used my own wedding as a tester to see how I dealt with the stress, if I could do it and if I actually enjoyed it? As I assumed I would, I loved it. I was actually upset when it was all over. So here I go on my journey of becoming a successful Wedding/Party Planner.

I decided I didn't want to limit myself to just weddings because I have planned two baby showers and realized I just like to plan! No matter the occasion. I have always enjoyed being the hostess at my house around the holidays or even a simple barbecue!

I am in the process of planning a wedding as of right now. With the wonderful invention of Craigslist I was able to get my name out there slightly without having to spend a dime. She found me and we are on the search for a location as of right now.

The poor thing was getting so overwhelmed that the only thing she had was her dress, which is a good start but since her wedding day is July 10th, 2011, we need to get a move on the location as soon as possible. I'm on my way to Russian Jack this afternoon to glance around and get an image of what she has in mind. I've called a few other places but they are all booked which is to be expected this close to summer. July is usually the first month to fill up, so if you plan on having your wedding in July I would book your location about 8-10 months in advance sooner if possible. Otherwise your going to have a hard time finding anything.

I have a facebook page and an email address alaskanelegance@gmail.com and would love to hear from you if you are looking for a planner. I can do as much or as little as you need. I'm offering my services for free or very cheap depending on the size of your event. If your event is not in the Anchorage area I might charge a traveling fee. Thanks again for visiting my blog. Have a wonderful weekend!
